Every brand has a logo. When I first started developing this blog I had no idea what it was or what I would be writing about. I don’t write about brands or logos too much. I’m afraid of sounding too “hip”, but over time I have come to rely on branding symbols and logos to inform my own actions. I try to avoid using big pictures or words, because that can make it hard to understand. But I do use pictures of brands that have personality.
A good logo is hard to define, especially for a blog. The logo is just the visible part of your brand identity. It shows what your blog is about and what you stand for. The logo can come in many forms, from just a simple shape, to a full-color illustration, to a logo drawn from scratch. Sometimes you see different logos for the same brand at the same time, and that is just another example of how a logo can be used for multiple purposes.
A logo can be so simple it doesn’t even need a logo, like the logo of a single store on the front of your business card. If you do that, I don’t think anyone will even remember it. But a logo is more than just a simple shape, or a simple symbol. It’s a visual representation of your brand identity. It’s like a short, highlighter-ed description of why you do what you do, and how you do it.
I love the look of brands. They always look cool, and they are always popular. So why not use a logo as your logo? I like to use logos to represent other things as well. For instance, my logo for my website is a cute little flower that stands out and looks pretty because of it, but it also makes a great logo for my logo in my business card.

The question is, are these logos good or bad? I think the best kind of logo is the one that is memorable. But if you want to be memorable, you need to be memorable to others. And if you are in a business that is being dominated by something that is memorable, then you may be losing out on a lot of the attention that your logo is creating.
The logos that I would personally be most worried about are the ones that are very generic. It’s easy to make a generic logo and use it to be “generic” for a few years, and then people will begin to notice which generic logo is really “generic”. A more memorable logo is one that can be used by many different brands. For example, the Nike logo is very memorable to those people who were wearing Nike shoes back in the late 90’s.
