The last time I made a personal appearance on the show “The Smarter, Older, Greener More Busier You” on the National Public Radio program “Fresh Air,” I came up with the idea of incorporating some “self-awareness” into my life. This was a way for me to make a personal statement about my own life by sharing my story – how I got where I am today.
The show’s host, John Zenger, has a great way of putting personal stories like mine in the spotlight. For instance, he recently told a story about how, as he was flying through the air, he looked down and saw a piece of his own body floating in mid-air. For a moment he felt like it was his own body and then, after looking down and realizing it wasn’t, he realized that it was just a piece of paper floating in mid-air.
This made me think of a story I heard over at the Geek Girl Chat about a person who lost a lot of weight and decided that she wanted to become a doctor. She got her degree and then took a job as a part-time resident in a hospital instead of attending medical school. She was the perfect example of someone who went through life without really thinking about her current life. After she lost a lot of weight, she began to gain weight again.
I find this story fascinating because it’s like the story of how a person can lose weight and still maintain a full life, with the weight gain coming in and out of her life. And of course, it’s also like the story of how a person can lose weight and still have a job doing it.
This is the kind of story I like to see in a movie. It’s like you have a person who is overweight, and as the story goes, they go to the doctor to lose weight, and she eats all the food he’s giving her and then goes on a diet and then she gets a job, and now her life is the same as it always was, and she’s doing it for real.
The story of a person losing weight and doing it for real is one that I personally relate to. I personally know how it feels to gain weight for a job and then be able to do it for real. I have been there many times myself, and it’s like, oh, I love my job, and I love being able to work out and still do it for real.
This is an interesting observation and I would suggest that people who get into extreme diets and lose weight for a job, may like the way they look in the early parts of their lives.
Well, you could say that it depends on the person. If you lose weight for a job you have done for years, then maybe you do like the way you look in that early part of your life. If however, someone loses weight for the first time and then gains it back for the first time, then I would say that person likes their body the way it is.
Just last year I lost 25 pounds. I had to do it very slowly because I had a family to feed. I started by eating three meals a day, a vegetable, pasta, and a protein shake, and then I slowly increased the vegetable and protein portions. Three meals a day didn’t work, so after 12 weeks I cut my vegetable and protein portions in half and increased the protein. Now I eat a big vegetable with grilled chicken, fish, and vegetables most days.
It’s pretty impressive that the slimming regimen helped you lose 25 pounds. But it’s especially impressive because it wasn’t a diet. You weren’t starving yourself. You weren’t putting on extra pounds. You weren’t going to the gym. You weren’t exercising. You weren’t eating weird foods. You weren’t working out. You weren’t doing anything other than eating and exercising.
