I know what you are going to say. “But you’re not an intern. You’re an intern that gets a job!” Well I don’t think that’s right. I’m not an intern. I’m an intern who gets an internship. You have to be ready to learn and adapt while being a student as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting the full-length internship experience.
There are a lot of benefits to taking a well-paid internship. There is the constant possibility that youll find yourself working on projects with other interns. There are also the many benefits of being able to work on projects with people who have your background. However, youll also have to deal with the constant possibility that youll make the wrong choice because of the fact that youre not an intern.
The fact is, everyone makes the wrong choice at some point. So I am not suggesting you become an intern and then get fired before you realize you made a bad decision. I am saying that when youre in the position of taking a well-paid internship, the odds of you making the wrong choice are higher.
I know what youre thinking. I used to think the same thing. Yes, youll have to make the choice to work on an internship at some point. However, that decision is much less likely to be the correct choice than it was when you started the internship with the right idea and with the right expectations. I also know that it is likely to be much more difficult to work on a project that you dont want to work on.
I think it is safe to say that you are most likely going to end up doing a lot of internships. With that in mind, you might be best off finding an internship that you like and enjoy. It also might be worthwhile to get an internship that you wouldnt mind doing for the right reasons.
I wouldnt say that internships are for everyone. I think that they are for people that have great ideas for projects and people that are willing to do whatever they need to do to earn the trust of the company and its employees. The important thing is to find a group of people that you would genuinely like to work with so that your job is secure.
